S.O.S Gorilla

S.O.S Gorilla was created to raise funds to collaborate in the gorillas preservation. It is an idea of Hector Prat, located in Barcelona. He designed the most important tool to raise the funds, the web site, available at www.sosgorilla.com. He was supported by the Barcelona Zoo, through Maria Teresa Abelló. Then both decided to donate the funds to Berggorilla & Regenwald Direkthilfe.
The project is still looking for more supporters. To give support to the project just means giving the permission to add a logo in the site, and when possible to make little publicity.

How It Works
People who want to donate money can do it "buying" pixels of a gorilla picture. This picture will be gradually discovered as people buy the pixels. Afterwards the URL or names of the ones who have paid for it will be shown, as a motivation to collaborate. The cost is 1 €/pixel, and the picture (600 x 800 pixels) is sold in 25 pixels squares, so a minimum of 25 € is required to collaborate. If finally the whole picture is "sold", it will have collected the amount of 480.000 €.

On the first page the user will read the facts about the gorilla' endangered situation, a brief explanation of how he/she can help, the funds already collected, the pixels left, and in the bottom of the page the links of those users who have already contributed to S.O.S Gorilla will appear randomly. These links will be seen all the time browsing through the site.
Clicking on "Picture Map" takes the user to the picture which will be unveiled pixel by pixel as they are bought. To buy the picture map squares, it is necessary to click on "Help Gorillas". First, the user chooses the area where to locate the pixels, then the squares to buy (units of 25 pixels, the minimum to be bought), and finally he/she writes the URL or name to be displayed in the map and at the bottom of the page. When clicking "Proceed", the user pays through paypal. Once the process is finished, it will take from 24 to 72 hours for the user info to appear on the site, as it is a manual process make by Hector Prat himself.
