| The mountain gorillas of the Virunga Volcanoes have been
observed continuously since 1967, therefore much more is known about their
behaviour than about the gorillas in other areas. Many individuals were
named and their life history is known. But mountain gorillas are also unique
in terms of the habitat they live in and in the way they live: No other
gorillas move up to such altitudes and live in such cool climates. For this
reason, they have very long, silky hair, mainly on their arms. Of all the
gorillas, they are the ones best adapted to a life on the ground. Therefore
their feet strongly resemble those of humans. |
